A countdown timer made for travelers
Waiting for a trip is part of the trip. With a countdown in sight, the date stops being a number on the calendar and becomes a goal that helps you get organized. This countdown timer tells you how many days, hours, minutes and seconds are left until your trip, your concert, your festival, your birthday or any other event.
If the event is a trip, the tool also shows a list of what is worth doing depending on how many days are left, for example checking your passport, booking lodging, downloading offline maps or weighing your bag. It is a general guide to sort your to-dos, and you can adjust it to your destination. If you are still deciding where to go, see the destinations for first-time solo travel.
You can save up to 12 countdowns on your own device, without creating an account. If you want someone else to see yours, copy the link and when they open it they will see your event with the date you chose. You can also download a vertical image ready for stories and add the date to your calendar with an .ics file.
How the days are calculated
The countdown uses your device's clock and the date you enter. If you don't set a time, it counts down to 00:00 on the chosen day. When the date has passed, it shows how many days have gone by since the event. For birthdays you can turn on the yearly repeat so it always counts to the next one.
Days are whole calendar days, so they include weekends and holidays. If your trip changes date, just edit the field and the countdown updates instantly.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a countdown and a day counter?
A countdown counts forward to a future date and updates live, with days, hours, minutes and seconds. A day counter instead calculates how many days there are between two dates.
What is a countdown timer?
It is a clock that counts down the time left until something. This tool does it up to an exact date and time, like your trip, a concert or your birthday. If you are looking for one by duration, for example 10 minutes, that is a different kind of timer.
How do I make a countdown for my trip?
Choose "Trip", type the name, set the departure date and, if you like, the return date. The countdown starts right away.
Is my countdown saved?
Yes, on your own device and without signing up. If you clear your browser data, your saved countdowns are cleared too.
Can I share my countdown?
Yes. "Copy link" creates an address that contains the name and the date. Whoever opens it will see your countdown.
Does it work for birthdays?
Yes. Turn on "Repeat every year" and it will always count to the next birthday.
Does it count business days?
No. It shows whole calendar days, including weekends and holidays.
Can I customize the image I share?
Yes. You can pick the color, the format (story, post, square or wide), show only the days or also hours, minutes and seconds, and add your own background photo. The photo is never uploaded to a server.
How do I share a countdown that keeps running?
Share the link. Whoever opens it will see the live countdown. Images are a snapshot of that moment and the video lasts 8 seconds, so it is best to post the link along with them.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. It works in any browser, on your phone and on your computer.
