When you need to turn HEIC into JPG

What a HEIC file is and why to convert it

HEIC is the format iPhones use to save photos by default since 2017. It weighs about half as much as a JPG at the same quality, which is why it saves space on the phone. The problem is that not every program, website and device can open it, so you often need to convert it to JPG or PNG.

With this tool you upload one or several HEIC photos and convert them in your browser. JPG is the most compatible and the lightest format. PNG loses no quality from compression, although it weighs a lot more. You can also adjust the JPG quality if you want a smaller file.

The conversion happens on your device, so your personal photos, your documents and your trip photos never go through a server. The first time, the tool prepares the converter, which weighs about 3 MB, and then it stays saved in your browser.

Tips for converting your iPhone photos

If you do this often, you can ask your iPhone to save photos as JPG from Settings, under Camera, Formats, by choosing "Most Compatible". That way you don't need to convert, although photos will take more space.

iPhone Live Photos are converted into a still image. iPhone videos are not HEIC, so for those see the video to GIF tool or use the original MOV file.

Frequently asked questions

What is a HEIC file?

It is the image format iPhones use by default. It keeps the same quality as a JPG in less space, but not every program opens it.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion happens in your browser, so your photos never leave your device.

Do I lose quality when converting to JPG?

There is a minimal loss from JPG compression. At high quality it is hardly noticeable. If you want none, choose PNG.

Can I convert several photos at once?

Yes. Upload them all and download them together in a ZIP.

Are location and date data kept?

The conversion creates a new file and doesn't keep that data, which also protects your privacy when you share the photo.

Does it work on Android and Windows?

Yes. It works in any modern browser, including Android, Windows and Mac.
