How to compress an image without anyone noticing
Compressing an image means reducing its size in MB without changing what you see. A phone photo can weigh between 3 and 8 MB, and you can almost always bring it down to a fraction of that without the eye noticing the difference. This tool uses controlled lossy compression for JPG and WebP, which discards details that are barely perceived, and shows you right away how much you save.
You have three settings. Quality defines how much is compressed, and the balanced option is the best for most uses. Maximum size reduces the width or height of the photo, which lowers the weight a lot when the image is too big for its use, for example a website or a form. Format lets you keep the original or convert to JPG or WebP, which usually weigh less than a PNG.
If an image was already well optimized and compression doesn't improve it, the tool keeps the original instead of handing you a heavier file. Everything happens in your browser, so your personal photos and documents never go through a server.
JPG, PNG or WebP, which one is better?
JPG is ideal for photos. PNG keeps transparency and is perfect for logos and screenshots, although it weighs more, which is why it is worth converting to WebP or JPG when you don't need transparency. WebP usually gives the lowest weight at the same quality, and all current browsers can read it. If your browser can't create WebP, the option doesn't appear.
For a website or a blog, a width of 1920 px is usually more than enough, and for a visa form, a width of 1280 px is usually enough to meet the size limit.
Frequently asked questions
Is quality lost when compressing?
With JPG and WebP there is a minimal loss that is barely noticeable at high or balanced quality. You can compare before and after before downloading.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Compression happens in your browser, so your photos never leave your device.
Can I compress several images at once?
Yes. Upload as many as you like and download them together in a ZIP.
How much can the size be reduced?
It depends on the photo. Phone photos usually drop between 50% and 80%.
Why does a PNG barely get lighter?
PNG doesn't lose information, so it weighs more. Convert the PNG to WebP or JPG to save much more.
What is the maximum file size?
Up to 60 MB per image.
